A: Ethanol is alcohol blended into petrol at various percentages. This fuel can damage fuel system parts and also lead to engine damage from the lower octane rating. The lower octane makes for hard starting, overheating and poor performance. Warranties could be voided if ethanol is proven to be the cause. No doubt, in the future, small engines will be engineered to run on ethanol-blended fuels.
In Australia, with our extremely dusty conditions, we recommend changing the engine oil every 20 hours of use or once a year for the average user. Please use the oil recommended by the manufacturer as this will ensure the maximum engine life possible. Air filter maintenance is critical too, so check your air filter several times a year.
